Baking Angel Salt Though

Scrap of fabric about 20x20 cm’s
Baker’s Dough
Doll Hair or wool
Acrylic paints for face
Small piece of ribbon
Pre-made angel wings or Cardboard to make wings
Dough Recipe
3 1/2 cups of flour
1 cup of salt
1 1/4 - 1 1/2 cups of water

Start by mixing the dough, adding a little water at a time to the dry mix. Do this until it is moist but does not stick to your fingers. Knead the dough until it makes a soft smooth ball.

Using your creative talents Mold the dough into the shape of a person. Use the picture above as a guide but generally just insure it has a head, arms and legs.
All you are molding is a basic stick figurine.

Once you are happy with your stick figure , Place it on a baking tray and into the oven at 200 deg Celsius for around 20 minutes or until firm and hollow sounding.

If your angel gets burnt and goes brown don’t panic just give her a coat of white or cream paint. Dressing her may also cover some of the burnt bits.

Start by painting the angels face it can be as simple or as detailed as your painting skills allow.

Making the Dress:
Fold your scrap of fabric in half and hold the center fold at the neckline of the angel.
Mark where the length of her dress will be, then cut away the excess fabric. At the top of her dress ( the center fold line) cut a small hole big enough for her head to fit through. Be careful not to make the hole too big to start with or it will simply fall off her shoulders.

Once you have it adjusted correctly tie some ribbon around her waist to keep it on. Glue a small loop of ribbon behind her neck to use as a hanger to hang her up with .

Using craft glue, stick the angels hair onto her head and trim away and loose strands with a pair of scissors to tidy her up.

Now it is time to make her an angel by gluing on your ready made angel wings or by cutting out some wings from cardboard and placing them on to her back.

There is a lot of variations you can make on this angel and a whole collection of these cute angels could be made using different hair colors , different dresses and so on.

With this in mind art can be related to a many number of genres from drawing and painting through to dance and sculpture. As beauty is in the eye of the beholder so is art, one man’s idea of art may not be another’s so to rigidly define what is art is near enough impossible.
